ISSUED BY:
Invitations
and announcements are issued by the parents of the bride or the
surviving parent. If the bride is without parents, invitations
may be issued by the closest relative. The accepted order of
kinship is as follows:
- Elder brother
- Elder sister
- Both grandparents or surviving grandparent
- Uncle and aunt
- Guardian
- Bride and groom issue invitations themselves
If the bride’s father and mother are issuing the invitations, the conventional form is:
Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ellis Harper
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter

Mr. Michael Samuel Lee
on Saturday, the fifth of July
Two thousand and eight
at three o’clock in the afternoon

If father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent issues the invitation:
Mrs. (or Mr.) Matthew Ellis Harper
requests the honour of your presence
at the marriage of her (his) daughter
etc.
If
father or mother is deceased and the surviving parent has remarried,
the remarried mother would use her present husband’s name, but the
remarried father would use the conventional form:
Mrs. David Lee Carson
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of her daughter

If the bride’s parents are deceased and the invitation is issued by an older, unmarried sister or brother:
Mr. Thomas Allen Harper
requests the honour of your presence
at the marriage of her (his) sister
etc.
